Patient Transport

E-zec medical patient transport

The Patient Transport Service (PTS) is provided for patients who are being transported to an NHS provider and who are deemed medically eligible. The service is for non-urgent, planned transportation of patients whose medical condition is such that they require the skills of clinically trained staff and/or their equipment during their journey.

Escorts take up a valuable seat on patient transport vehicles, which could be used for other patients. Escorts are restricted to one per patient and must themselves be fit to travel unassisted, patients can only have an escort if they are; under 16 years of age, they are a parent or guardian of a child being transported, if they have psychiatric or learning difficulties and/or needs with constant supervision during the journey and/or within hospital, blind, confused, hard of hearing or have other speech or language difficulties. Patients can also have an escort if they require assistance prior to and/or following their appointment.

Am I eligible?

Eligible patients are those where their medication condition and their mobility means that they require the skills or support of PTS staff at any point of their journey or where it would be detrimental to their condition or recovery if they were to travel by other means;

PTS could also be provided to a patients’ escort or carer where their particular skills and/or support are needed. This may be appropriate in the case of accompanying a person with a physical or mental incapacity, a vulnerable adult or in the case of patients needing a translator. This would need to be agreed for each individual case at the time of booking the transport.
