Old Bridge Surgery has a Nurse Practitioner who works at an advanced level, there is also 3 Practice Nurses as well as 5 HCA’s who all work together to provide patients with the best possible care.
Nurses are increasingly extending and expanding their scope of practice working at an advanced level to enhance service delivery and improve health outcomes. We have one Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) here at Looe; Fiona Cooper.
The International Council of Nurses defines the Advanced Practitioner role as a ‘registered nurse who has acquired expert knowledge base, complex decision making skills and clinical competencies for expanded practice’.
Both Fiona and Susan operate as advanced generalists, providing complete episodes of care for patients who present with a wide variety of health needs. Although both specialise in managing patients with long-term conditions.
Andrew Sutton, a registered Paramedic, supports the duty doctors making home visits and seeing patients with minor illness in surgery.
Laura and Alex are experienced Practice Nurses with Abi joining the team in 2016 as a newly qualified Nurse. Their duties include immunisations, cervical smears, contraceptive advice, chronic illness annual reviews including asthma, diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

Our Health Care Assistants assist the doctors and practice nurses with many duties including minor operations, the removal and insertion of coils and implants and assisting with our diabetic patients.
