Cornwall Emotional Support Service

Transforming mental health for people affected by stroke.

Meeting local needs in Cornwall

We’re committed to delivering support across the UK, including rural areas.

In Cornwall, over 1,000 people have a stroke each year and currently there are over 14,000 people living with the effects of stroke – 50% of which experience depression or low mood. This means there are thousands of people in Cornwall struggling with the impact stroke has on their mental health and wellbeing.

We’ve been working closely with the NHS and stroke survivors in Cornwall to develop a service which meets the needs of the local community.

With thanks to the Elwyn Thomas Memorial fund, we’re delighted to say that a new five-year project called Cornwall Emotional Support Service will run from 1 April 2022-31 March 2027.

Over this time we will work with others to build stroke-aware, stroke-friendly communities, making Cornwall a better place to live for those affected by stroke.

What is the Cornwall Emotional Support Service?

Our service has been developed for stroke survivors who live in Cornwall. We’ll provide you with individual counselling sessions. We can explore issues with you such as loss, adjustment, relationships, and building confidence and self-esteem.

How does it work?

Our service has been developed for stroke survivors, their families and those who have had a TIA (Transient Ischaemic Attack), who live in Cornwall. We can provide you with individual counselling sessions to support you to deal with the emotional impact following your stroke.

We offer:
